Duration of “Allure Your Senses” Art Installation in Historic Downtown Fort Myers Extended at City’s Request

FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 21, 2016) —  Due to the overwhelming popularity of the “Allure Your Senses” art installation by internationally-acclaimed artist Edgardo Carmona, the City of Fort Myers has asked that the iron sculpture exhibit remain in historic downtown for as long as possible. Developers of the ALLURE condominium, the luxury 32-story condominium to be built on the banks of the Caloosahatchee River in the Fort Myers River District, are responsible for bringing this magnificent 23-piece exhibit to downtown, and they have been able to arrange for it to remain on display through April 30th of this year.

Unveiled in January and brought to downtown through a private-public initiative, the “Allure Your Senses” artwork is positioned in various outdoor public spaces, predominantly along First Street and Hendry Street from City Hall to the riverfront. The installation has been extremely well-received, drawing attention and regular visitors to downtown.

ALLURE developers, JAXI CMD, also recently announced that they had purchased a ten-foot-tall sculpture titled “Brisas” from the exhibit and she is now on display in front of the ALLURE sales gallery, located at 1300 Hendry Street in charming downtown, until she is moved to the project’s new sales center. Then, when the luxury condominium is complete, she will be moved to the ALLURE condominium, where she will reside permanently.

“Allure Your Senses” artist Carmona is from Colombia. He combines his work as a designer of machines and steel buildings with artistic sensitivity to create sculptures carved out of iron. He develops “characters that make Cartagena what it is” from multiple parts or structural elements, such as rods, tubes or pieces of steel. Each piece weighs anywhere from about 200 pounds to more than 1,000 pounds, and most are 7 to 10 feet tall. The exhibit in Fort Myers is the North American debut for this collection. Prior to that, it was on display in Paris.

Since 2003, Carmona’s artwork has been exhibited in South America, Germany and most recently in an 18-city tour of Europe. Many of his works are on permanent display around the world. Edgardo Carmona was born in Cartagena in 1950. He followed studies in mechanical engineering and business administration, and then studied fine arts, painting and sculpture.
